Favorite Tools
We all have favorites. Don't lie. I know you do. Here are mine and why.
- Somolux 45 mm rotary blades, I get mine from Amazon. THE.BEST. Quality and price. Your blades must be very razor sharp to cut with precision and you , and you will notice when your blade becomes dull. These babies are seriously, and dangerously, sharp. Trust me, I have cut myself often enough to highly respect these blades. As a matter of fact, these would make a great weapon too...not that I advocate such nonsense...
- Scotch Guard lint roller, great for removing those tiny threads from quilts, and for the many, many, threads that end up on your clothes when you forget to put your apron on before you start working. Also helpful if you have a shedding cat.
- Tula Pink 4 inch Large Ring Micro Tip Scissors, these are amazing. SERIOUSLY. Thank you Tula. I use these for thread cutting and also for seam ripping. Those tiny micro ends get into a seam like nobodys business. And I love a product that does double duty.
- Olfa 45mm Deluxe Ergonomic Rotary Cutter, save your wrists and hands from the injuries caused by repetition. I love the retractable blades. Simply squeeze and apply pressure to cut with precision and ease. This rotary cutter was a game changer for me.
- Dust Off canned air, I use this for spraying off tiny areas. Great for those fluffy lint bunnies (2nd cousin to the domestic dust bunny FYI) that end up in small areas that are difficult to reach. A lesser known use is frightening cats off of your projects where they do not belong...I have no guilt.
- Essential thread 1200 yards size 50 from Connecting Threads, if you are going to invest your time and money into making an heirloom quilt, you need to use a good quality thread. I am so happy with the quality of this product. The price is fantastic, and they have a very good selection. I even use their long arm thread and have not found such a high quality for this price. My friend Patty told me about this company and I am so glad she did. Word of mouth is really the best way to find good quilting supplies. Ask your tried and true quilting friends. They will hook you up.
- Fons & Porter magnetic pin holder, actually, ANY magnetic pin holder will do. I just happen to love hearts and use this because of the shape. But since I added the picture, I wanted to provide you with the name.
- Fiskars 17 inch Acrylic ruler, I find the larger ones to be very handy too. This is a great size for the majority of my projects though, so it is the one I use most often.
- Ruler handle with suction cups by Faithful Qualicraft, it is so much easier to grab rulers with this handle on them. I do not use them for cutting though because they can be a little wobbly. Until I find something better, I will continue to use this.
- Pink 35x23 inch cutting mat by Fiskars, The size of this is wonderful for the majority of my projects. I especially enjoy the color. Whoever decided that green was the best color for cutting mats was wrong. In my opinion, if you can add a cheerful color to an everyday object or tool, absolutely should.
